Wall Shot

In the deep canyons, sometimes it was just not clear exactly where the trail was as the was looked a lot like the wasn't. If you understood the previous sentence on first read, you did better than me :) .

Chesler Park

After a side trip involving a fast 1 mile scramble through a slick rock canyon, we ended up in Chesler Park. As we approached camp cp3, we slowed way down. With our backs to a a large rock wall, and the sun baking the camp, we simply stopped to look, listen, and sit. The silence was amazing and the rock warm. You could completely forget that this was January in Utah, and as the sun began to set, reality returned, and we raced back to camp, not wanting to get caught hiking in the dark.

Check out the map on the 1/26 post to find this spot. The terrain in very interesting when you zoom in.

Nevermore

The Raven pearched above my chamber door (a.k.a. a rock above my temp flap) and kept a close eye over our camp. We wondered what would happen to our food if we left for even a second, and we learned quickly that it would be "Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.' "

Reminder: Don't forget to take a look at the map in the 1/26 post. If you view the larger map, and zoom out, you can see where all the pics on this trip were taken. If you zoom in, you can see a good deal of the rock detail. Google has very good resolution of this area.

Towers

The red rock and blue sky towered above us most of the trip, kind of putting us in our place.....

Stairs

It always amazes me that God knows exactly where to put staircases.

Back Country

The back Country of Canyonlands offers some stunning scenery, especially in the winter when you often have most of the park to yourself when backpacking.

The following shows where the shot was taken. You can pull back on the map to show all the shots from this trip:

Cold Camp

Morning broke cold, but this day we headed to Canyonlands, to start the adventure.

Cool Down

Thursday was rather cold all day, and as the sun went down during our drive into our first camp at Arches National Park, we knew we were in for a rather cold night. Our hope was that things would get warmer before we started the hike, but this night, the temp dropped to +7 Fahrenheit. Thank goodness for good sleeping bags, even though a friend did not get his till the next day :)

Note: This is a part of a series I am publishing from a backpacking trip we took in Canyonlands national Park last weekend.

Gold

The Colorado flows slowly through the cold playing with the gold & red from the canyon walls.

Think Thin

We are back from Canyonlands, and I am going to attempt to give you a feel of what we saw. In short, it was a great trip, and I was amazed as always by the incredible scenery that God has set out for us. My first shot however shows you something made by Man. Originally built in 1916, this bridge across the Colorado River took traffic until1986 when a more modern bridge was built a bit down stream. I recall crossing this bridge in 1979 with a Chevrolet Suburban, hoping we would not knock off the mirrors.........How could that have been 29 years ago.........it must be someone else's memory.....or age is catching up with me...best not to think about this too much :)

Wonderment

And the children were full of wonder at the joyful sounds rising through the air.

Into The sky

As the nodes left the instrument, they would rise up into the sky.

Personal Note: Sorry to my regulars for dropping out for the past 4 days. We had to drive to Las Vegas last Thursday evening due to a death in the family, and I did not have any access while there. I will also be out later this week for around 4 days for a winter backpacking trip in Canyonlands. Of course you will get to see some pictures :)

Morning Has Broken

Taking a break from the statue series to show you today's sunrise. Yesterday it snowed all day, so the sun today was a welcome friend this morning.

The dry notes jump off the paper and out through the instrument.

Hands

On 11/28/06, I posted Musical Spiral, a tribute to a music teacher who had died in an automobile crash . Over the next few days, I want to show you some of the detail of that statue. Today we start with the hands that brought the instruments to life.

Forgiven

You should be forgiven if you don't follow all the parking regulations at the local Recreation Center.

I accept bills larger than a $20, feel free to send any unneeded 50's or 100's my way. You could also send me funds via your debit or credit card, if you are willing to go through Pay Pal. My basement project will thank you. :)

Contributions

The Delta area has a sizable Hispanic population, and this mural seeks to honor their contributions to the valley. I sometimes wonder if I am blind to certain issues, but I have not noticed any real racial tensions in the valley. Oh I am sure there are individuals that could use a good talking to, but generally the squabbles that take place in the valley are just the usual small town things that provide local entertainment.

Homage To Deltas Diversity

As mentioned in some of my early posts, Delta is known as the City of Murals, and as you look around town, there are many. This one is downtown, and tomorrow I will show you more of it, but today I want to point out something I find interesting. This mural was done in sixteen years ago in 1992, and to the best of my knowledge it has not been defaced. There is some recent graffiti a bit down the building, and I did do a post about graffiti on another mural a while back, but all and all, the kids of Delta seem to respect the art and the artists, and these murals survive. To the youth of Delta, past & present, I say thank you!

Better Check on Glen

I was wandering down an empty Main Street on New Years day, and came across this sign at Glen's Barber Shop. Perhaps someone should check on him today :)

Happy New Year!

This is my favorite post from 2007, from a storm back in May. The power of storms in Colorado is amazing, and I love to watch and hear a good storm go through. I hope it helps you jump start your new year!

Check out other DP sites who are picking their own favorites, and start the New Year off right!
