Spring in the Rockies…or… Saving a dollar

A week or so ago, heading into the storm East bound on I-70 I was thinking “why am I not staying home in Delta today”? The answer was simple, very good prices on furniture at the American Furniture Warehouse in Glenwood Springs. The drive was worth it, as the furniture got moved into our new home this past weekend. The scenery on the drive over was not bad either.

But I worked so hard to get them here

No Noah, I said two of the same kind, and turn off those headlights!

Don’t fence me in

$400 seems a good price for an albino horse with minimal care and feeding requirements that gets along well with stone children……..

Pick Me, Pick me!

As far as kids go, I suspect these are fairly low maintenance, but my guess is that talking to them is like talking to a rock. I will keep the ones I have, even if it does cost me $30 to get out of a fast foot restaurant!

Chinese American

Back on March 5th, Anulla asked about being able to take out visitors for Chinese food. Well, I suspect those visitors would not be welcome, but there are indeed two Chinese restaurants in Delta. I think the American flag in the window is a nice touch!

Inside Leon’s

Leon’s Mexican restaurant has a cool back door, good food, and a friendly atmosphere. What more could you ask for.

A Sure Sign of Spring

The grass has not greened up yet, but the temperature was a perfect 70 degrees, and the JV Delta Panther’s took their first game against Nucla Mustang’s 11 to 3. Go Panther’s!

Out of Town... Again

Well, I had to spend 10 days in CA over the past 2 week for work and I depleted my photo stock. So, today you get one I thought was cool that was taken on the beach out west.

Spring Thaw

Last week, Delta got one of its largest snow falls of the year (some 5 inches). The plows did their work, but that made it a bit harder for the sun to do it's job.

You should see the front door

Sometimes I am amazed at where people will go the mile on something. This is the REAR kitchen door, located in an alley for a restaurant in town.

High School Discussions

You know, when I got this thing up over 100 mph, the front end just started feeling mushy, so I thought maybe a spoiler would help, so I took it over to the shop and…………

Mug Shot

The Chief of Police in Delta has produced his own Coffee Mug, so I figured a mug shot would be in order.

Snow Line - ~6000’

There is a concept in the mountains of the “snow line”. That is above this elevation you will see snow. It is related to the drop in tempature as you climb in elevation. The Snow Line on this day was about 6000’

Down in the North end of Toung Creek Valley this lone tree awaits Spring.

Visitors

The family came home one day, and found that they had visitors. What to feed them…..

Enjoy

Even amongst all the beauty, we still need to remember what parks are best used for!

Capitalism At It’s Best

Nope. The right leg is an "ad" for "Columbia Savings" This it is simply capitalism at its best (or worst perhaps).

Old Sign?

Was there a wood shortage? Did the builders of the park need to steal the sign leading to the Federated Women’s Club of Delta?

The cat tail is not really all that lonely, but not all seem as intent on exploding.

Well not really, but this lone cat tail is about to explode!

And Some are Big

Not all of the water in the park is in ponds. In this case it almost seems like there may be some small rivers.

Friday, February 23, 2007

Some are small

The trails in the park wind through marshy areas, some small some large, that cover this confluence. I suspect it makes for a good place to watch wildlife.

Need a taller post

Confluence Park is a nice area in NW Delta where the Uncompahgre and Gunnison rivers come together. I do think however they need a few less rules, or perhaps a taller sign post.

You Should See The Tree!

Montrose, some 20 miles to the south of Delta seems to have a bit of a different climate. I guess it was easier to erect a barricade as opposed to moving this cone when it fell………or perhaps, it is the start of an art war between Delta and Montrose…..

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

Hey, what about me!

Late last fall, some of the corn fields in the area were cut down, but others are still up today! I am told that it has a lot to due with how wet the fields are, but I suspect if a field is still up in February, there is not much to salvage.

Transitions

In the description of my blog, I mention that this is a place “where the deserts of Utah give way to the Rocky Mountains”. I think this picture pretty much shows that.

Powderhorn

Back on September 12th, I showed you where the cows play in the summer, but now it's our turn to play. Powderhorn Ski Area, about an hour from Delta, lived up to it's name this week!

Dobie Mud

The Dobies are a very fun place to photograph, but they have a dark side. Remember, the Dobies are essentially mud hills, and when things warm up as they did this week, they show their true colors. This mighty warrior from 2/7 found out the hard way, and was brought down to size as a result.

Hey (or “Hay" if you prefer) everyone needs a circle of friends!

Supercenter

The Wal-Mart is open 24 hours a day in Delta, but I am not sure everyone knows. One of the loneliest jobs in Delta must be the graveyard shift for the Wal-Mart greeter.

Old Fashion Drive In

In the mood for a hamburger while you sit in your car and enjoy the cool of the night? This Sonic drive in is for you then.

This is Your Car

This is your car on rail road tracks……Any questions? They actually park this trailer around town near various rail road crossings. Somewhat effective I think.

A Glimpse Into The Past

Compared to many of the cities represented by daily blogs, a 115 year old building may not seem all that old, but considering how quickly many western cities sprung up, this is really rather amazing. A lot of effort is put into preserving the old buildings, so perhaps many generations to come will get a glimpse into the past.

Water Water Everywhere

Ok, I admit it, this is not Delta. You won’t find this much water within a thousand miles of my town, however, the water from the Gunnison could very likely end up here in San Francisco Bay, perhaps........ Ok, maybe that is a stretch, but I am certain many a Californian drink water that went through Delta in its recent history.

One of the nice things about Delta is that I can easily get to the west coast for business. I can catch a 6:30am flight out of Grand Junction, and be to the office in LA before many of the locals. I do enjoy the trip home much more however.

Super Sunday

Much of America came to a stop yesterday afternoon to watch a battle from the heartland. The Chicago Bears took on the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl, but they have now gone into hibernation for what will most likely be a long winter for them. Our church got together in the kids area to watch the game on a big screen, eat chili, fellowship, and raise some money for “Speed The Light”. The game was actually pretty good as well!

Funny You Should Ask

It is funny you should ask Annie (see yesterday’s comments). We have looked over the Delta housing market rather extensively, and have not found anything we want to buy. One place caught our eye however. We looked it all over, and it was ok, but when I was standing outside, I bust out laughing. Up on the chimney, in brick, were the initials of my last name, and my wife’s maiden name. The frown however confirmed that this was not the place for us.

You Asked for an "A" ?

So a couple of days ago, Photowannabe was looking for an A in a place it really did not exist, so today I will give her the real thing! I hope she does not notice the “V” in the window…….

I have been in California and swamped with work all this week, and have not been able to tour the other daily photo sites, but do appreciate all of you that visit my site so regularly. Thanks so much!
