Hearst Castle

Further up highway 1, you come to San Simeon, and the Hearst Castle. For those who have not heard of this place, it is one of the homes of William Randolph Hearst, who made a large fortune in publishing. The home is simply amazing, as this shot of the outdoor pool will attest. I found the place kind of sad however, as it seemed that he was trying to buy (or in this case build) his way to happiness. From what I heard, I don’t think he succeeded, and if with his fortunes he was not able, why do we think we can do the same……..

I agree, money doesn't buy happiness. From what I understand "happiness is free for the choosing, and exist between the ears".

Looks like he had everything money could buy, but wasn't able to fill an emptiness within.

I just drove by this place, saw it way back off the road. So I didn't see this pool. Thanks for showing it.

Hearst Castle is a fascinating place to visit but I think its sad too. Money corrupted so many that stayed there and it seems that people were and are never satisfied.

That would be fun to swim in for sure.

Makes me wonder if Victoria Hearst, WR's grandaughter, holds any inheritance interest in the place. Seems she likes our area of Colorado, better than the deserts of California.
