A new chapter
Last night, after all the stress and emotion of the day, we sat out on the back porch, and raised a toast to Mom. As dusk descended upon our home, we began to hear a sound not heard all summer. Below us in the valley, the cows had begun to return home, and the gentle melancholy sounds they were making seemed to fit the mood perfectly. A new chapter has begun in our lives.

A heck of a picture Bill, it's odd how the grass just won't grow on the hillsides.

What a lovely view. And yes, we should sit more often on our front or back porch and admire the view without paying attention to our needs.
the trees and the mountains made the landscape very beautiful
Do you mean they cows have bells just like they do in the Alps? How wonderfully civilised! here in Australia I have grown used to cattle that roam free over thousands of square kilometres - a different approach to cattle farming altogether - but I just love the old traditional ways of cows having names and being identified by their bells in the Alps.
And yes, you need to sit on the porch and take in the beauty of this world as often as you can.
Tong Creek ranch is in the valley below us. It is a fenced area around 2200 acres, and the cows spend the winter months there. In the summer, they are turned loose up on Grand Mesa. At one time, there would be a cattle drive to move them between the two areas, but I think trucks are used these days. One of my earlier posts shows the cows roaming around a ski area on the North side of Grand mesa.
They don’t have bells or names, but the mooing (spelling?) carries up to our place very well.
