Morning Has Broken

Taking a break from the statue series to show you today's sunrise. Yesterday it snowed all day, so the sun today was a welcome friend this morning.

This is my favorite post from 2007, from a storm back in May. The power of storms in Colorado is amazing, and I love to watch and hear a good storm go through. I hope it helps you jump start your new year!

Rip In The Sky

Delta has had a rather unusual number of cloud covered days lately. Typically we get 300+ days of sunshine per year, so I guess we are working on the 65 days right now. Yesterday afternoon however, a large rip in the clouds appeared reminding us that the sun was not far off.

Morning has started

Things are just getting started for the day at the grain elevator.

Look West

Don't forget to look west as evening approaches, as God puts on a good show almost every night.

Balloons filled the sky as the National Anthem finished, and no reports of downed aircraft were heard.....

Room With A View

The Continental Divide is an imaginary line that runs north to south across North America, and basically all water east of that line heads to the Atlantic Ocean, and that to the west goes towards the Pacific. Some does end up in the Great basin, but that is the subject of a future post. Following close to this line covering around 3100 miles across 5 states is the Continental Divide Trail. As the trail winds through Colorado, it sometimes runs together with the Colorado Trail which runs 479 miles from Denver to Durango. These trails don’t maintain them selves, and tax dollars are not sufficient, so volunteers are recruited to work on sections of both trails

This past weekend, I volunteered to cook for a trail crew that was performing maintenance near Twin Lakes Colorado, about 3 hours from Delta. This and the next 7 posts will show you some of what that area is like. I think you will enjoy it.

My perch for 2 nights was on this bluff high above the twin lakes. Fall was in the air, along with nightly rains. There is something rather relaxing about spending a rainy fall night snug in a tent, only to be greeted by a deep blue sky.

Sunset Over Delta - 1 Year Later

It seems fitting that on this 365^th post of Delta Daily Photo, I would finish as I started, with a sunset shot from my back yard. What a year it has been. Taking root in a new community, the death of my mother, the High School graduation of our second son, the near deadly accident of our second son, a promotion and 2 new bosses at work, a new home, and a year of daily publishing. My father told me he did not think there were 365 things of interest in Delta to photograph, but I think he was mistaken. Granted I did stray out of Delta every so often, but there was a rich set of subjects available. As of this writing, I am not sure what I am going to do with this blog. I have many projects in mind, some photography related, others not, and I need to decide. By far, the most comments I received were when I photographed the landscapes of this wonderful area. Perhaps something along those lines……Ah time will tell.

For now, I am ceasing daily publishing as I ponder all the ideas swirling around my head. My cameras will not be still, and when I get pictures I really like I will publish them, and I will also try to keep you up to date regarding other projects that are in the works. Please check back here every so often to see what is brewing!

Test Fire

As I mentioned yesterday, the sky in Delta is a show in its self. To demonstrate this, I submit the photo above. I have a 5 year old Canon D60, and I was having issues with the popup flash. Sitting at this computer, I searched the web, and found a site that allowed me to do a self repair. As I was doing this, I was taking test shots, not looking through the viewfinder, or even out the window. When I dumped my IBM Microdrive, this test shot came up of the sky I was ignoring!

The internal flash was stuck open, now it is closed, but not working. The external flash is fine however, so I am good for now. I think I have pushed over 20K shots through this D60, and I fear it is starting to tire. Alas, when it goes, it will be a sad day, but that Canon 5D is looking very interesting………..

Light Show

Last night, we were treated to a spectacular light show, as a massive lightning storm swung by to our west. I was heading out for a walk, but decided getting the camera out was a better idea. I think I was right!

Storms

The Colorado sky is big, and the storm clouds do their best to fill that void. It can make for some incredible cloud watching.

Northern Exposure

The Northern exposure of this very large sandstone formation does not get the direct light from the clear blue sky. I suspect this allows the lichen to take hold.

Utah On Fire?

Could it be a forest fire? Is the state of Utah completely ablaze? No, it’s just another spectacular sunset as seen from our perch above the valley.
