The Northern exposure of this very large sandstone formation does not get the direct light from the clear blue sky. I suspect this allows the lichen to take hold.

The world as viewed from a resident of Delta Colorado, including one year of daily photos, followed by whatever else caught my eye! Delta is a small city which sits where the deserts of Utah give way to the Rocky Mountains.

Bill, I love the stark blue and the textured rock formation. It almost looks like the formations I saw in Red Rock Canyon this past week.
Good pic, and your comment on the lichen; yes moss always grows on the north side of the tree.
