Sunset Over Delta - 1 Year Later

It seems fitting that on this 365^th post of Delta Daily Photo, I would finish as I started, with a sunset shot from my back yard. What a year it has been. Taking root in a new community, the death of my mother, the High School graduation of our second son, the near deadly accident of our second son, a promotion and 2 new bosses at work, a new home, and a year of daily publishing. My father told me he did not think there were 365 things of interest in Delta to photograph, but I think he was mistaken. Granted I did stray out of Delta every so often, but there was a rich set of subjects available. As of this writing, I am not sure what I am going to do with this blog. I have many projects in mind, some photography related, others not, and I need to decide. By far, the most comments I received were when I photographed the landscapes of this wonderful area. Perhaps something along those lines……Ah time will tell.

For now, I am ceasing daily publishing as I ponder all the ideas swirling around my head. My cameras will not be still, and when I get pictures I really like I will publish them, and I will also try to keep you up to date regarding other projects that are in the works. Please check back here every so often to see what is brewing!

Down On Main Street

Zeroscape

Zeroscape is a concept where you do your landscaping in such a way as to minimize maintenance. Typically this is done with rock, but many people want grass as well. Green cement is one way to fulfill both needs.

Homeward Bound

On Thursday, I missed my flight from Denver to Montrose (just south of Delta), and ended up catching a plane to Aspen, which is a little under 2 hours from Delta. My wife came and picked me up, and we stayed the night at the Redstone Inn. We could have made it home, but hey, why not! A nice relaxing evening was followed by an early morning trip over McClure pass to get home in time to start work. We had the top down (windows up & heat on full) as we drove through the crisp early morning air, and were treated to this view of the sun making its final push to start another day in Delta. Zoom in, and notice the fog that blanketed the valley that morning.

Time to Turn Around

It is the end of the road for me, unless I want all my equipment confiscated, but it is also the end of the road for many others, that did not turn around in time. Perhaps the many dedicated folks who attempt to rehabilitate the inmates will have an impact, and options will open up.

Out Of Harms Way

If you are feeling lonely, with no one to talk to, try driving down a road that ends at a prison, and stop periodically to take pictures. Suddenly you make many new friends!

Much of Delta was built a while back, and this hotel is no exception, but hey they have got TV! I don’t want to give you the wrong impression, many of the houses in Delta now have TV as well :)

I do love how the neon sign complements the evening sky, and hope they never “modernize” their advertising.

Finally!

It has been a rather dry summer for Delta, but the rains are finally getting to town. It has been a while since I actually saw puddles, so naturally this one deserved a picture. I just noticed another good sky jumped into the shot as well. Sorry about that :)

Test Fire

As I mentioned yesterday, the sky in Delta is a show in its self. To demonstrate this, I submit the photo above. I have a 5 year old Canon D60, and I was having issues with the popup flash. Sitting at this computer, I searched the web, and found a site that allowed me to do a self repair. As I was doing this, I was taking test shots, not looking through the viewfinder, or even out the window. When I dumped my IBM Microdrive, this test shot came up of the sky I was ignoring!

The internal flash was stuck open, now it is closed, but not working. The external flash is fine however, so I am good for now. I think I have pushed over 20K shots through this D60, and I fear it is starting to tire. Alas, when it goes, it will be a sad day, but that Canon 5D is looking very interesting………..
